![]() ![]() Typically you must file a request for a hearing with an administrative board to hear your dispute. X Research sourceįile your request for a hearing. If the tag in the image is not your license tag, you also should be able to dispute the violation and have the violation waived. If the license tag image is so blurred that the numbers and letters are illegible, you would select "missing image" to dispute your toll violation. The Illinois Tollway gives you two ways to dispute a license tag image: You may either state that the plate is incorrect, or that the image is missing. If the photo isn't clear, the tolling agency may get the license tag number wrong, or may send the violation notice to the wrong address. That photo is transmitted to the state Department of Motor Vehicles, which provides the name and address of the registered owner of the car. For tolled locations where automatic passes are used, if a driver passes through without using one of the pass accounts, a photo of the license tag is taken. However, if the license tag isn't yours, it's possible you received the violation as a result of a clerical error. Keep in mind that you're still liable for the violation even if someone else was driving your car.Identities and records can be crossed, and it's possible that the name or tag number on the violation don't belong to you. If those tolls in aggregate reduce your balance to $0 then any remaining tolls will be invoiced by mail at a higher rate before the auto-refill has a chance to kick in.Check the name and license tag number. This is because sometimes the chip doesn't read or there will be a backlog in billing, so you could get hit with several days worth of tolls all at once. Note that when I say "adequate balance" you probably don't want to set your auto-refill threshold less than $10 (maybe more if you're using the toll roads daily). There's no real incentive for the various toll agencies to better integrate their individual systems, because the entire point is to incentivize drivers to get a toll tag and maintain an adequate balance. You have to pay the other agency's invoice and chalk it up to a lesson learned. The biggest hassle there people didn't foresee is that once another non-TxTag toll agency fails to auto-bill your TxTag, there's no option to go back and transfer those fees once you've re-upped on your TxTag balance. I worked for TxTag customer service about 13-14 years ago, and by far the most common calls we would get were "why am I getting a bill when I have a TxTag?" Well, because you put $20 down when you first got it, declined the auto-refill option, and since then have racked up $40 worth of tolls. ![]() but I will say that whatever tag you end up going with it's imperative that you keep a healthy balance on it, otherwise you'll end up in the same situation you are now periodically. There are already plenty of people in here recommending get this tag or don't get that tag, so I don't feel the need to weight in on that. I'm paying late fees so regularly at this point I think I might actually break even by paying a bookkeeper just to keep track of toll accounts on two cars. There are just so many fucking companies (especially since I go to FW/Dallas on occasion) and the signs all make it seem like it is trivial to pay by mail but aside from a couple of them they don't ever actually mail me at all until I'm in collections? Does anyone else have this problem? Do y'all have any life hacks for keeping up/paying? The fact that I'm trying to raise my preschooler while WFH fulltime during two pandemics and the fall of a few global superpowers certainly isn't helping. I have a decent job so I can 100% afford to use toll roads (aside from the crazy variably-priced mopac one for plutocrats) but at any given moment I am massively overdue to at least a couple companies because I have no fucking idea how to keep track of all of the different ones I need to pay. While I was gone it seems like Texas added ten or eleven toll companies and none of them have a clear/functional online presence. ![]()
